Recreational or medicinal, weed smokers benefit from it. So here are the top 10 diseases where use of marijuana can be benefited.

Also known as Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome / Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

Scientists believe that the HIV started with a certain type of chimpanzee  in Central Africa which carries Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (the chimpanzee version of aids) .

Human hunted the chimpanzees for meat and came into contact with their infected blood that transformed into HIV.

Research shows that people with AIDS/HIV who smoked marijuana have better sleep, gained appetite, have better moods and showed less neuropathic pain.

  1. Alzheimer’s

This is a disease caused by brain cell death. This disease is also known as the most common type of DEMENTIA or the loss of mental ability due to the increasing death of cells in the brain.

Although, studies show that it is common on people 65 of age and older, approximately 200,000 individuals are under the age of 65. Someone develops this disease in every 67 seconds in the US.

Smoking marijuana and some of the plant’s chemicals have been used to help patients with Alzheimer gain weight and it also lessens some troubled or nervous behaviours of the patients.

Researchers found it slowed the development of protein deposits in the brain which scientists think may be a part of what causes Alzheimer’s although no one really knows what causes the disease.

  1. Arthritis

Arthritis  is informally known as joint pain or joint disease.

There was a study made on 58 patients who uses the by-product of marijuana found that they had less pain and that they can sleep better. Another review of studies said that marijuana may help fight pain-causing inflammation.

  1. Asthma

Is a “chronic inflammatory disease of the airway” that causes shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, coughing and wheezing.

Studies are contradicting, but some early finding suggests that it reduced exercise-induced asthma.  Other cell studies showed that smoking weed could dilate human airways, but some patients experienced tight feeling on their chest and throat.

  1. Cancer

Is a name given to a collection of related diseases which can start anywhere in the body which is made up of trillions of cells.

As a normal process, human cells prow and divide to form new cells as the body needs them and when cells grow old or become damaged, they die and new cells take place.

When cancer develops, this orderly process breaks down. As cells become old or damaged, they survive when they should die and new cells form when they are not needed. These extra cells can divide without stopping and may form growths called TUMORS.

Animal studies show that some marijuana extracts may kill cancer cells and some other cell studies show that it may stop cancer growth. With mice, THC improved the impact of radiation on cancer cells.

Smoking marijuana can also prevent nausea on chemotherapy patients.

  1. Chronic Pain

Is a pain that lasts longer than 6 months. Signals of pain remain active in the nervous system and can also last for years. Chronic pain has impact on both physical and emotional state of a person.

The physical pain felt by the body, in the long run can cause depression, anger, anxiety and fatigue which interact in complex ways with chronic pain making it worse and can decrease the body’s production of natural pain killers; to add up, such negative feelings may increase the level of substances that extend sensations of pain, resulting to a dangerous cycle of pain for the person.

People widely used cannabinoids for pain relief in the 1800s due to some animal and human studies which show that cannabinoids have a substantial analgesic effect.

Other medicine based on cannabis such as “SATIVEX” are being tested on patients with multiple sclerosis and used to treat cancer pain. This drug has been approved in Canada and in some European countries. Scientists also show a 30% in reduction in pain involving 56 human patients who smoked weed.

  1. Crohn’s disease

An inflammation that develops anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract (GI), from mouth to anus.

In a small initial study of 13 patients observed over three months, they found that inhaled cannabis did improve life of people with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.  It helped ease pain, limited the repetition of diarrhea and helped with appetite.

  1. Epilepsy

This is a common brain disorder characterized by recurrent seizures.  Varied as 2 or more seizures diagnosed based on the description of episodes; person’s medical and family history and results of diagnostic tests.

Trials conducted at NYU Langone Medical Center showed a 50% of reduction in the frequency of certain seizures in 213 patients (children and adult) who took medical marijuana extracts.

  1. Glaucoma

Is a group of eye diseases which result in damage to the optic nerve and vision loss.

This is one of the main causes of blindness.

Researches proved that THC’s effect on this disease and found that it can lower eye pressure. It may also lower blood pressure, which could harm the optic nerve due to reduced blood supply. THC can also help preserve the nerves.

  1. Multiple Sclerosis

This is a disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord. This happens when the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body. In the long run it can cause nerves themselves to decay or become constantly damaged.

There is no known cure for MS. Using marijuana or some of the chemicals in the plant may help avoid muscle spasms, pain tremors and stiffness. Side effect on a study involving 20 patients is that it may harm memory.

Indica Vs Sativa

Indica Vs Sativa The Difference Between the Two Cannabis Plants

We sometimes receive calls that will ask about what type of weed should they order?  Customers want to know what the pros and cons are with marijuana Indica Vs Sativa. The answer would be depending of what kind of effect you want to experience when you smoke weed. We usually have a variety of Sativas and Indicas available on our web site. So you will ask, what is Sativa and Indica?

Today’s article will let us distinguish the difference between an indica and sativa type of weed.

To start, indica and sativa are the two major types of cannabis plants. When the two types are mixed, a “hybrid” type is formed and each types has different effects on body and mind.

Indica typically grow shot and wide while Sativa grow tall and thin. Indica plants are better grown indoor because they grow short and Sativa are better grown outdoor because it can get as high as 25 ft. in height. Indica’s flowering time is shorter, about 8-12 weeks while sativa’s will take about 10-16 weeks to grow.

indica vs sativa

Indicas have fat fan leaves, where each leaf segment nearly touches each other or even overlaps a little. Sativa leaves look more like thin little fingers.

In terms of taste, Indicas are sweet and fruity while sativas are earthy and piny.

The dried buds are are a little bit more difficult to differentiate because they might look like hybrids but once you know the basic features of each type, in a way, you can make an educated guess as to whether or not your strain is indica or sativa dominant.

Sativa’s buds are usually long, less dense, wispy bud or fluffy, often with red or orange coloring and have a sweeter or lighter aroma.

Indica’s buds are short, heavy, compact and dense, often purple coloring and have thick pungent aroma.

Most indica strains originated from the Hindu Kush region of the Middle East like Turkey, Morocco and Afghanistan while most sativa strains originated from those countries near the equator like Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Southeast Asia.

It makes sense when you want to distinguish each strain when it comes to the name of the weed. Indicas usually have Kush at the end while sativas have Haze.

Get High And Get Drunk?

Can you Get High and Get Drunk at the Same Time?

Get high and get drunk? Some people may have experience smoking weed and drinking alcoholic beverages at the same time. It may be an enjoyable experience or it might get you puking in the bathroom, swearing that you will never ever mix the two ever again!

Have you ever wondered what happens to our body when the result of getting high and getting drunk are mixed up in our system? Well then, we could provide you with a reason why.

Scientifically, the combined effect or “getting cross-faded” is not that explored but the intoxicating effects of alcohol and marijuana have been widely studied. Technically, marijuana contains THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which acts on the brain’s cannabinoid receptors while alcohol on the other hand, depresses the central nervous system. A professor of psychology and neuroscience at Ohio State University named Gary Wenk stated that comparing the two substances isn’t even like comparing apples and oranges. He said that “It’s apples and vegetables. They are very different drugs.” Based on the effects, THC largely affects our cognitive skills, like getting paranoid and you may notice that you are on a time zone warp while alcohol affects our motor skills, which gives you a hard time walking straight and making your speech unclear.

Scott Lukas, who teaches at Harvard Medical School, conducted a research regarding the interaction of various drugs and in 2001, he found that after individuals smoke marijuana and drank a large dose of alcohol, the equivalent to a couple of shots, the THC levels in their blood plasma nearly doubled compared with people who smoked weed and consumed a placebo drink. The effects of marijuana on those who drank alcohol got stoned sooner than those who only smoked it and marked their experience as subjectively “better”. This means that getting drunk causes more THC to reach the brain through the bloodstream within the few minutes of absorption, it is also said that alcohol may cause changes in blood vessels that increases the absorption of inhaled THC in marijuana. Lukas also stated that he is not worried that the combination of both substances could be lethal but getting cross-faded could be riskier than just getting drunk or high alone because the effect of both will be much stronger which means that accidents are most likely to happen. He also points out that the amount of drugs that he used for his research were lower than the levels that people often use while on a party.

Well, I guess, if you are planning on getting high and consuming alcohol at the same time, you need to be very cautious of what you are doing. Know when to stop and control things. Or better yet, indulge yourself to it so you would know on what limit your body is able to handle the effects of both. Based on my own experience, when I start to drink and I have that feeling that I’m getting tipsy then I smoke a joint, I ended up puking in the bathroom. But when I started to smoke a joint, then drink after getting high, I ended up feeling just fine which makes me enjoy doing both at the same time. All is for you to find out!!!
