Understanding Marijuana (Types and Strains)
There are many different strains and types of marijuana available on the market these days. With so many types and varieties it can be somewhat overwhelming when trying to pick which would be the best suited for you. Marijuana comes mainly in three major groups. Indica is one that is very popular amongst many users as is Sativa, the third is Hybrid which is a combination of the two types. Even though there are a countless amounts Indica or Sativa varieties it is rare to find a true Indica or Sativa as most are essentially hybrids of sorts possessing both Indica and Sativa genes.
Recently another type has been introduced into the Indica and Sativa gene pool. This type is commonly known as Ruderalis, however many are unaware of this variety’s existence altogether. Ruderalis is a shorter, less psychoactive type of cannabis. Cannabis Ruderalis is generally used to increase yields and make plants grow at a much faster rate.
Now, when it comes to specific sub-strains there are endless amounts of them and new ones are being created all the time by manipulating certain genes (by combining two varying strains). With these “new-age” hybrids users can get a multitude of benefits from both the Sativa cannabinoids (higher in CBD) and Indica cannabinoids (such as THC).
THC is the main psychoactive cannabinoid that gets users “high”. To offset the psychoactive effects users will need a strain that has higher amounts of CBD. Hybrids are the best for this as they have a great balance of THC and CBD. Some users however prefer to get really high. In the case, that the user wants to get really high, he or she would require a strain (usually Indica), which is high in THC and very low in CBD.
Terpenes are the essential oils of a plant. Terpenes play a great role in increasing certain desired effects of specific marijuana strains. When combined with cannabinoids, terpenes create something known as the entourage effect. The entourage effect simply means an increase of a desired effect of a specific cannabinoid or a multitude of varying cannabinoids.
